Why Vegan?

  • 150 billion animals a year.
  • 1 trillion sea creatures.
  • The leading cause of environmental, wildlife, habitat destruction, and primary abuse of land, sea, air, crop, and fresh water resources.
  • All this unnatural destruction. It doesn’t have to be so.  We can be better than this. We have technology and can adapt for the sake of rationale, preservation, and evolution. We have the luxury of power and choice, and with that we have the duty to care for this planet and all its inhabitants.

Being vegan is so very important for so many reasons.  It is a philosophy that abstains from consuming and contributing to the death, slavery, oppression, and exploitation of any non human individual, directly or indirectly, regardless of the species. If you wouldn't eat a dog or cat then why would you excuse eating another animal? There is no difference but social perception. Giving all species the same consideration that we would give humans, and want our individual lives to be considered, is what veganism is all about.

This means no flesh of any kind from any land or sea form of life. No dairy, eggs, honey, no wool, leather, skins and furs, not using products in which animals were tested on or researched for, not attending places that use animals as entertainment such as zoos, circuses, horse carriage rides, aquariums, Sea Worlds, no palm oil, and not consuming anything that comes from another being despite the ways of them being obtained as ‘humane’, a ‘by-product’, 'natural', or ‘unintentional’.

Why? Because we don’t need to. We are far from the days of killing animals to survive. Commodifying animals has no positive upside, only violence and destruction. There are 7 billion people on the planet and growing, and using animal products cannot be sustained in even the smallest way, because it will always lead to unnecessary death, cruelty, exploitation, and environmental devastation.

The animals matter. Their lives matter. They feel love, joy, and pain. They suffer just like we do. They have souls and go through such terrible anguish at our hands, much of which we never know about because we don't see it, or don't want to. Unfortunately we live in a society where justifying the use and death of animals is commonplace. But, the more of us that step into a bright brave future are the more of us that will bring peace and lead others to the same.  If we can't simply be kind to these innocent and vulnerable creatures then we can never have peace among mankind. Violence breeds violence.

You can find out if something is vegan or not by googling it, checking the ingredient list for animal derived ingredients, looking for the V stamp, the ‘not tested on animals’ logo which could also be a jumping bunny, and on the PETA website ((PETA).
